I am restoring my old doll house to give to my niece for xmas.
I have had it for 5 years and have working on it off and on. Any one that has build a Doll house or restored one should know it’s a job. But I am having issues, since the doll house is old most new stuff does not fit it. I can’t be sure how old the house is, but I know it was a kit that my grandma put together and gave it to my sister and I, and I am 25 now, so I would guess it’s about 20 to 15 year’s old.
So any way the issue I am having it that some of the parts are missing – half of the double doors, one awning, some of the window pieces, ect. It kind of got shoved into the attic and forgotten, until my parents moved. Like the BACK of the Attic.
I want to restore it as close as possible to the original with some improvements. Is there any sites or resources that might have the old blue prints, or directions, or maybe even used parts? I don’t mind making new awning and doors if I new what the originals where made of with out destroying it further to find out. I did strip it and sand it and repaint the out side already, and removed all the wall paper – which was peeling. I know I would know the kit if I saw it.
I have had my head stuck inside it for awhile
. Help please. My niece will be 6 this year, and I want to give it to her before she loses interest in ‘childish’ things.
If you have any really detailed question her page may help or you could write to her. I helped my mother restore an old dollhouse once and I remember that we had to use some unorthodox materials. The roof shingles were the ends of tongue depressors and the doors were hand-cut from plywood. If you can’t find any kits that can hep and no parts that would fit you may to make them on your own.
